This is my new (and now colour) version of CD index.
Receiving a CD each month is all very well until you forget just which CD has that rather obscure utility. You just know it has to be there somewhere. I tried cataloguing the CDs but soon found that the catalogues were taking up an inordinate amount of disc space. Besides, I didn't really want a list of all those read me files and data files. My solution was to catalogue just the folders. Because of the way the Macformat CDs are arranged this works very well and I have produced a catalogue of the last 12 MACformat CDs in just 500K.
CD index is a Hypercard stack and will only be fully functional if copied to your own disc. It still works fine as an index if left on the CD, but it will not be possible to add your own comments or edit it in any way. The index has had a fresh coat of paint and can be run from the CD index (Player) which is just a small Hypercard stand-alone.
Additional comments are now stored in a stack called CD index Comments. This stack should be stored in the same folder as the index. You can use this stack to build up your own database of comments on the various bits of software that really interests you.
The index is relatively straightforward. Folders which contain more folders are marked by a • . The top window shows the hierarchy of folders opened so far; the bottom window shows the contents of the folder at the bottom of the list in the top window. To open a folder marked with a bullet point just click on it - easy.
Oh, by the way, I'm not a great programmer so I make no guarantees. I don't see how these stacks can do any damage but ...
